Date Posted:06/20/2022 1:07 PMCopy HTML I am still trying to understand this new word "Junteenth". From what I read it is a day (?) the slaves were freed in America. The event is in celebration of the "Emancipation" of the slaves, which happened two years prior, and only freed the slaves held in states of the Confederacy. Since the war had ended and there was no longer a Confederacy, this was moot. The slaves were freed by the 13th amendment to the Constitution. (Among other laws) after this so called "Junteenth". Is this just another attempt to separate the whites and blacks of America? It certainly looks like it to me.
For the man who thinks he is free, there is no escape.

Re:"Juneteenth" Date Posted:06/24/2022 1:02 PMCopy HTML It took 2 and 1/2 years for the news to reach Texas. ☺☺ A portmanteau of “June” and “nineteenth,” Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when a group of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned that they were free from the institution of slavery. But, woefully, this was almost two-and-a-half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. As much as Juneteenth represents freedom, it also represents how emancipation was tragically delayed for enslaved people in the deepest reaches of the Confederacy. https://www.vox.com/2020/6/18/21294825/history-of-juneteenth I feel more like I do now than I did a while ago...
