No electricity, no phone, outdoor toilet, private well with a hand pump, etc. Even the poor people have it better today. Yes, we did all those things in your post. Regarding the cash registers, for years now,the fast food joints have pictures of the products on the keys so the employees don't have to figure out,"is a quarter pounder a #3 or #5." Smartass? Yeah, Dumbass too. By the way, I was a senior in high school before I lived in a house with indoor plumbing. There was no electricity available to run a well pump where we lived. Now, that was REAL country. Not complaining, but wouldn't want to live like that now. P.E.T.A (People Eating Tasty Animals) I'm deplorable and proud of it.
