Well, once again my computer locked up on restart trying to install updates that did not exist. This is the second time it has done this. I have it set to notify me when updates are available but let me decide when and if I want to install them. THERE WERE NO UPDATES EVEN AVAILABLE. Any ideas?

That does sound strange. There has been a rash of fake update notices lately, but they usually come from pfishing emails or as pop-ups in your browser. Your problem does not sound like that, though. Could there be an old update hanging out in your system that failed for some reason and is trying to run again or got hidden at some point? Reviewing your update history may point to something. Running Microsoft's windows update troubleshooter could reveal something, as well. The clock is about to expire for Windows 7, so there can't be much in the way of updates available. If your system works well, other than the update problem, it's probably not a big worry.

Nah, I'm not worried about it. It only takes a few minutes to fix it, I was just curious. I think when I cleaned windows update, it got rid of all those hidden and failed updates. Sure removed a lot of stuff. Remember all of that "upgrade" crap?

I am amazed that you are still "updating" Windows 7. There can be no good come from it, only bad. Einstein said "The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over, expecting different results." I have never updated Windows and never will.
