I have been coming by here pretty regularly and there are no new messages, and I think "why doesn't someone say something?" Then I realize I didn't say anything either.

There are a lot of things going on, lets hear some opinions. If you disagree say why, if you agree give an "atta boy", but don't do like I have done, just look and go on.

This is the only board like this I am on, and I have been here since it was Vox Populi on the old AT&T board. Let's don't let it die. Kenneth will be back.

Good point!!  Maybe a discussion of the current impeachment exercise going on in the senate would bring out more opinions, while maintaining a civil attitude, since we know there are many with biased opinions, and probably I'm one...

I don't know if anyone has an argument yet, all we have heard so far is a 1 hour presentation presented over and over. We have heard all the reasons to impeach if "this" did occur, with no evidence that it did occur. I believe it was Socrates who developed the style of argument where, you assume a statement is true, then argue that, if that is true then this is also true. The problem with that is, if the assumption is not true then the inference is also not true. I believe, the house has brought these charges purely for political reasons and Trump's defense team will negate every charge the Democrats have made, the only losers will be the American people. I am offended the they have done this to me.

When it comes to politics and the whole impeachment debacle going on currently, it seems senseless to me to argue or debate any of it. Congress is going to do what they're going to do. I'm not really surprised that most of Congress' actions are politically motivated. They are professional politicians. It's what they do. You don't seriously think that anyone in Congress really gives a damn about what we think or whether or not we're offended, do you? Trump is and always has been a politician. He's more used to the business style of politics than the governmental style, but it's politics, nonetheless. Donald Trump has a personal stake in the current proceedings to be sure, but I'm guessing he's probably not losing any sleep over it. As pointed out, the real losers are probably the American people. This is nothing new, though. The people have always been the losers and probably always will. The only thing we can realistically control is our vote. We can argue, we can debate, we can employ any argument style that seems appropriate, but at the end of it all, the only thing that counts is that vote.

Rather than think about politics, I prefer to spend my time with the dog outside chasing squirrels, or talking to my wife about how her day at work was, or visiting with my sister, or playing Uno with the grandkids, or probably a hundred other possibilities. Let's talk about what you see when you look out your window. What brings you joy every day. Do you have any hobbies? What's in your bucket list? All those things are infinitely more interesting than politics.

Just some thoughts from a goofy old man.

Hope your day is going well.

I disagree, I thing no subject should be eliminated from group discussions. Any intelligent person is concerned about what is going on in Washington. After all. these are the people who are governing your life. You can determine how these things get done, of course the vote is the most powerful thing you have, but it is not the only thing. Knowledge is power. It adds to the strength of your beliefs, and allows you to make a more informed and better decision when you do vote. The best way to learn is to discuss the issue. See if your ideas stand up to scrutiny, see if you can point out discrepancies in other peoples arguments. If you keep your head in the sand, all you see is dark. You will never see the truck that runs you over. The worse excuse is, "I didn't know".

Some of these responses are laughable. You don't want to discuss politics "because it would be bad for the board". How much worse can it get? If you don't want to discuss politics, then what do you want to discuss? How about this; At what altitude does Mountain Laurel grow?

OK, I started a new topic that asks you to state your personal opinion of Trump based solely on what he has done, said or tweeted and is easily confirmed to be true.

To do this you can’t base your opinion on abstract feelings such as “God sent him” or he’s “The best president we’ve ever had” ..and, as I have noticed in a lot of social media posts, compare him to what others have done..which is done to divert attention from Trump to some other person or deed..  I see a lot of posts that say “If you think Trump is bad just look at what so-and-so did..we are only interested in what shaped your personal opinion of Trump… not what others have done.

I think we can do this without animosity and share different ideas...go for it..
